THE AIRDRIVE DESIGN is the new construction concept developed to improve fixed spool reels by optimizing their lightness, smoothness and reducing their rotational inertia without compromising their strength.
This concept is based on the redesign of some fundamental parts of the reel such as the spool, rotor, bow and spindle.
The first CERTATE was born with the concept REAL FOUR, a design concept based on 4 fundamental elements of reels such as llightness of the body, sstructural olidity (aluminum body solid), fluidity of rotation e freedom of customization. Thanks to these features, the entire series has become a reference for all fishing enthusiasts in both freshwater and saltwater.

Several CERTATE models came out in 2005, the first one FINESSE CUSTOM and the second CUSTOM HD.
Both models FINESSE CUSTOM were equipped with shallow spool AIR SPOOL for handling very thin fishing line (3-8lb) and clutch FINESSE TOURNAMENT DRAG, characteristics that made them a reference for all lovers of finesse fishing. These two versions were extremely lighter than the previous model (-10g of size 2000 and -15g of size 2500).
The reel CUSTOM HD Was designed with the aim of further enhancing robustness. Equipped with a 3500 spool specially designed for braid fishing, it was improved by increasing its clutch strength and equipped with crank 65 mmMACHINE CUT with RCS Power Light knob. Because of these features, the reel became extremely versatile and suitable for the heaviest fishing.
After the success of the last version of CERTATE, in 2006, model R CUSTOM, the reel equipped with a body in size 3000 was equipped with a spool and rotor size 2500, this allowed for an extremely high-performance reel that was lighter than its predecessor. A limited edition version was also released in the first year, which allowed this reel to become super popular among big predator fishing enthusiasts.
In keeping with the trend at the time, 2007 saw the release of the HYPER CUSTOM model with which the new HYPER DIGIGEAR gear system was introduced, entirely machined and constructed of aluminum alloy. Borrowed from the then top-of-the-line SALTIGA-Z, this technology made the reel even sturdier and more durable, features that were appreciated early on by heavy spinning fishermen from the shore and boat.
After six long years, the new 10CERTATE was unveiled with two major innovations: the first was the new lighter and stronger AIR ROTOR, and the second was MAGSEALED technology. These two important innovations helped to make the reel even more solid with flow characteristics that fully respected the REAL FOUR concept already introduced with the 04CERTATE.
The AIR ROTOR helped increase rotational smoothness by reducing friction and improving the balance of the reel with the thanks to weight reduction.
MAGSEALED: Daiwa’s industry-exclusive special space-derived technology that harnesses the capabilities of magnetic oil to waterproof the reel and protect it from the risks of component corrosion.
After the introduction of the MAGSEALED to the body of the reel, efforts were made to further improve the waterproof characteristics. The 13 CERTATE was thus equipped with a thread guide roll MAGSEALED, which can greatly reduce the risks of corrosion. Further novelty was the rotor AIR ROTOR entirely constructed of ZAION which gave lightness and strength to the whole machine.
Thanks to the technology MAGSEALED the thread guide roller, one of the parts prone to major fouling due to water stagnation and dirt is protected by the waterproofing characteristics of magnetic oil. This technology will later be applied to later models of CERTATE and on the brand’s most common reel series.
The rotor AIR ROTOR entirely constructed of ZAION gives greater lightness to the reel ( -10g on size 2500), while simultaneously making it stronger, thanks in part to the stiffness characteristics of the exclusive carbon composite DAIWA. This model helped to improve the flow characteristics consistent with the concept REAL CONTROL of 04 CERTATE.
The evolution of 13CERTATE in line with the “Real Four” concept. The new version revamped even more, as well as the sprocket and thread guide roller, the 16CERTATE was equipped with bearings MAGSEALED on both ends of the drive gear, thus acquiring a watertightness and durability never before seen.
Thanks to the technology MAGSEALED already introduced with the 10CERTATE, the new version was equipped with waterproof bearings at the sprocket and thread guide roller that can further ensure the waterproofing of the reel while increasing its durability.
At a time when fishing with multifiber and extremely lightweight gear was depopulating in the fishing world DAIWA developed the 19CERTATE. This new reel respected the concept “LIGHT & TOUGH” and was equipped with “MONOCOCQUE BODY“, features that made this reel extremely light and ultra-durable.
Thanks to the technology MONOCOQUE BODY the body is MONOSCOCK this gives the reel greater structural rigidity and greater resistance to stress. The absence of fasteners also allows a larger control wheel to be accommodated, improving rotation and power transmission.
