Powerdrive Design
The POWERDRIVE DESIGN is a next-generation concept developed for the largest and most powerful spinning reels. It is designed to offer exceptional reliability in catching large fish around the world. The POWERDRIVE DESIGN features two main technology units: the POWERDRIVE ENGINE body unit, which provides extremely efficient and powerful recovery, and the POWERDRIVE ROTOR, which combines high rigidity with low inertia due to its optimized spherical shape.
- POWERDRIVE ENGINE
The POWERDRIVE ENGINE body unit consists of two main technologies the OVERSIZED POWER DIGIGEAR and the ROLLER POWER OSCILLATION. - POWERDRIVE ROTOR
The rotor unit features the “POWERDRIVE ROTOR,” which integrates two advanced technologies the CRANK POWER BAIL and the TOUGHLINE ROLLER SYSTEM. - ROLLER POWER OSCILLATION
It takes advantage of a ball-bearing swing mechanism that dramatically reduces friction, improving initial responsiveness and allowing for smoother and lighter retrieval. - CRANK POWER BAIL
It optimizes the opening and closing of the bow, while its shape is designed to improve the smoothness of the line, channeling it more effectively into the line roller. - TOUGH LINER ROLLER SYSTEM
The support structure and shape of the thread guide roller have been optimized to improve durability and ensure smooth and trouble-free operation. - ATD TOUGH DRD
Conventional drag mechanisms use the frictional force generated between the contact surfaces of a carbon washer and a metal washer. In contrast, DRD generates resistance force through the rotation and friction of the inclined metal roller. As a result, compared with traditional carbon washers, this system allows the wire to start running more precisely according to the set value, and the clutch continues to operate more stably. It reacts instantly to powerful sudden escapes of large fish and prevents line breaks. - DRD WASHER
Carbon washers are standard in conventional drag mechanisms for large spinning reels. The DRD system uses DAIWA’s unique metal unit called the “DRD washer.” Eight metal rollers are installed on each metal plate so that they are inclined with respect to the direction of coil rotation. This is the most important feature of DRD.
