The power lever has been moved to the center of the reel body and redesigned in a jog-dial style, allowing you to control the retrieve and engage/disengage the drag using only the thumb of the hand holding the rod. This completely frees up the other hand, which can then focus exclusively on handling the rod.
One-finger control allows for precise and immediate adjustments, making for an extremely smooth and natural recovery process
Thanks to DAIWA’s proprietary technology, we were the first in the world to seal ball bearings with Magsealed.
A magnetic liquid barrier prevents water and impurities from entering the bearing, preserving its original smoothness and significantly reducing rust, salt deposits, and abnormal noises.
Equipped with special neodymium magnets, this slip-ring motor is designed to deliver maximum responsiveness and durability.
It delivers explosive power when needed, but also offers perfect control at low speeds, making it ideal for a slow, gradual recovery.
Compared to the previous MAGMAX, its lifespan is four times longer.
The ATD drag system responds progressively to a fish’s runs, smoothly following its movements without jerks. With a maximum drag of 16 kg, it allows the angler to focus on the fight without fear of line breakage. It includes an electronic line-out alarm adjustable to 3 different tones (or can be turned off).

Weighing just 750 g, it offers a weight reduction of approximately 9% compared to the 19 SEABORG 500JP (820 g) and approximately 23% compared to the 20 SEABORG 500MJ (980 g).
■ New Aluminum JOG Lever
A contoured, knurled lever that optimizes thumb grip, allowing for precise speed adjustments and gear changes even when wearing gloves or with wet hands.
■ Magsealed Bearings
Shielded bearings mounted on the spool shaft to keep salt out and ensure the reel continues to run smoothly over time.
■ MAGMAX-G Motor
An ultra-durable, warranty-backed motor (3 years/300 km) with a lifespan four times longer than average, capable of delivering exceptional torque even at very low speeds.
■ Fall Brake Ring
A 180° control system that instantly adjusts the bait’s sinking speed with your thumb, eliminating false bites and improving sensitivity to bites as the bait sinks.
■ Dot-Matrix LCD Display
An anti-glare screen with large text, intuitive menus, and a 0.0 safety lock to eliminate the risk of tip breakage.
■ Oversized line guide for shock leaders
A line guide with an inner diameter of 3.0 mm designed to allow thick knots—such as the FG knot—to slide through easily, ideal for heavy jigging for tuna and amberjack.

■ Power Supply
The SEABORG 500J operates on a 12–16.8 V DC power supply.
Do not use incompatible power sources (100 V AC or 24 V systems), as they may interfere with the reel’s operation and trigger the electronic protection systems.
To get the best performance out of the MAGMAX-G motor, Daiwa recommends using batteries designed specifically for electric reels.
Operation – JOG POWER Lever

Operation – Jigging Mode
■ One-Pitch Jerk
This replicates the orthodox single-pitch retrieve (a single “jerk” of the rod combined with one turn of the reel handle).
■ One-Pitch Pause
: Repeats pattern 1 (One-Pitch Jerk), alternating it with stop (stay) pauses.
■ Combi Jerk
Repeats a combination of linear retrieval (tadamaki) and the jerk motion from Pattern 1.
