DAIWA TECHNOLOGY
Discover the most advanced sport fishing technologies in the world. Constantly evolving.
For over 60 years, we have continued to innovate and revolutionize the world of sport fishing. Thanks to research in the field of composite materials, design and construction techniques, we have patented a long series of exclusive technologies that have enabled us to create products with unparalleled reliability and performance in the market.
A special magnetized oil membrane seals the sprocket outlet from the body, preventing water from entering the body. The technology, used by Nasa in fuel lines on spacecraft, is exclusive to Daiwa in the industry. It is intuitive that the absence of water and dust inside the body preserves the mechanisms from corrosion hazards, extending the life of the reel. On more advanced reels, the system is also applied for the benefit of the line guide and control wheel, other weak points to be protected. Both applications affect the smoothness of rotation, reducing friction and increasing fishing pleasure.
Our DAIWA technology further on changes the fishing tackle market. Our engineers succeeded in further devolving the MagSealed invention to a new level. First we sealed the axis to the greatest possible extent, then the line roller and now the ball bearing! MagSealed is a latest chapter in the history of the fishing reel. Thanks to our targeted research and development, we succeeded in integrating MagSealed into a ball bearing. For a long lifespan and a silky-smooth running over a long period. A revolution!
The new Zaion and Zaion V materials have marked a true revolution in the construction of spinning reels: thanks to the innovations brought by Daiwa to carbon processing techniques, these materials allow for the creation of reels that are both lightweight and super-resistant.
The new composite super material developed by Daiwa to further improve the performance of Light & Tough reels: it is as light as its “big brother” Zaion and significantly stiffer and more stress-resistant than DS5 and DS4 materials. The mechanical properties of Zaion V make it possible to create bodies and rotors that are lighter in weight than DS5 and DS4 materials: the internal mechanics can then work at their best, provide greater smoothness and superior fatigue resistance resulting in lighter, higher-performance reels. But that’s not all! Zaion V is a carbon fiber-based composite so it is totally insensitive to corrosion, even when used in salt water.
Zaion is an excellent material developed by DAIWA to build reel bodies and rotors. The big advantage of this material is its lightness and solidity – you will feel this. Zaion is a kind of „High Density“ carbon strain material, which is made for highest performance and to resist maximum impact. Due to Zaion, it is possible to construct a lightweight reel body that durably supports the gearing. The strength of Zaion corresponds to magnesium and is 20% stronger than Nylon/ ABS material, usually used for reel bodies. Zaion is about 50% lighter than aluminium.
The gears are the real beating heart of a reel: power transfer and performance of the recovery action depend on them.
That is why Daiwa has put great energy into designing and developing new gears that are even more effective, efficient and durable: the Tough Digigear.
Developed from the famous Daiwa Digigear, they equip all the best reels of the latest generation: increased in size and improved in materials, they guarantee superior mechanical performance, greater reliability and durability.
First appearing in 2016, this technology exclusive to Daiwa immediately revolutionized the way reels are designed.
Unlike a body assembled from multiple components, the Monocoque Body is made from a single piece of machined material-this feature gives the reel unparalleled structural rigidity and increased stress resistance.
The absence of fasteners also allows a larger control wheel to be accommodated, improving rotation and power transmission.
The Monocoque Body also helps improve the reliability of the reel, as it better preserves the internal mechanics from the penetration of salt, dirt and other potentially harmful elements.
As a result, reels with bodies built with this technology are lighter, stiffer, stronger, and perform better.
Aesthetics also benefit, allowing for a design with cleaner, more attractive lines
Automatic progressive clutch. With the ATD it brake on the spool reacts smoothly to the initial stress, then gradually setting itself to the “brake” setting.
Featured on Daiwa’s best reels, the unique Air Bail headband is not only a distinctive style element.
In fact, its special tubular structure makes it lighter and stronger than a traditional bow, while the special tapered design of the fitting gently guides the line to the reel even when there is no tension.

Along the blank of any rod in action, compressive and tensile stresses coexist, which normal carbon fibers can cope with very well. When torsion occurs, the carbon tubular can fail. Torsion causes: fractures, inaccuracy in casting, reduction in distance due to misalignment of the rings, loss of power due to the disorderly transmission of force along the shaft. With X45 technology the fibers that wrap the stem are arranged diagonally and bi-directionally, and force it to work correctly. X45X (Full Shield) is the latest and most advanced evolution of X45 technology which allows you to have blanks that are even more powerful, resistant and with better casting performance. The transfer of energy along the shaft is in fact 25% more efficient, while structural rigidity and resistance to torsion improve further.
The 3D Cross Wrapping is a particular layer of carbon fibers arranged in a honeycomb: the three different directions of the fibers allow optimal distribution of forces, obtaining a more powerful, resistant and reliable blank.
After a humid or rainy day, it’s no fun carrying your open joint home because the joints are blocked! Daiwa solves the problem on its best telescopic rods with a series of grooves that prevent the formation of a vacuum.
The secret to the curve perfection of Daiwa rods is hidden among the layers of carbon that make up their structure. Near the joints the fiber warp changes direction, assuming an inclination that allows them to disperse stresses along the stem. This configuration causes the joint to be as flexible as the rest of the rod, which has advantages in terms of strength and reduced wobble during casting.

A revolutionary construction concept led to the creation of the first rings with a carbon frame. Not just any carbon, but a sophisticated multilayer with four-way weaving, very robust and very light at the same time. With the same diameter, a Daiwa AGS ring weighs 42% less than a titanium one and is 3 times more rigid, with unimaginable advantages on the balance of the rod, its sensitivity and, last but not least, its look.
Carbon fabric with high layering density that enables precise calibration of response. Due to the reduced presence of resin, the SVF fibers cooperate with each other ensuring top performance. In top-range products, the combination with the special Nanoplus resin gives this fabric even greater strength and flexibility, making it able to absorb the most violent shocks more effectively.
