Overview

The Tournament Basia represents the pinnacle of technology, build quality, and mechanical performance for Big Pit carp fishing reels. The 2026 model has been completely redesigned, both in appearance and substance, establishing itself as a new benchmark in the market.

HISTORY and EVOLUTION

In 2005, the original Basia QDA took the carp fishing world by storm, breaking new ground and setting new standards.

Its ultra-lightweight construction, distinctive all-silver finish, and 45mm shallow spool design have become iconic, setting a new standard for high-performance Big Pit reels.

In 2020, the evolution of the Tournament Basia SCW went beyond a mere cosmetic update: it introduced significant technological and functional innovations such as the Slow Cross Wrap system, LC Long Cast technology, and Magsealed protection. All of these features combined have taken the T. Basia’s performance to the next level.

2026

For 2026, the design of the Big Pit reels is taking a new direction thanks to the extraordinary 26 Tournament Basia.

The new model features a completely redesigned 45-mm spool. The 10% increase in diameter, combined with an extremely slight taper of just 2°, results in even greater line capacity and an impressive line retrieval of 115 cm per crank turn.

This significant increase in spool size led to the development of the largest rotor ever made by Daiwa for a Big Pit reel. Strength, balance and smoothness are provided by the innovative AIRDRIVE rotor made of ZAION.

A larger spool and rotor require a bracket of the appropriate size. The AIRDRIVE Bail uses a small-diameter hollow tube that keeps the weight down without compromising rigidity and strength.

The Slow Cross Wrap provides the perfect angle for the line to be wound onto the spool, optimizing both the loading and release of the line during the cast. Reducing line drag during the cast allows more energy to be transferred, significantly increasing the achievable distance.

Long-distance fishing, whether by casting or by placing bait from a small boat, is now a fundamental part of modern carp fishing.

To meet every need, this Basia comes with two spools:

  • “C” spool: 300 m of 0.35 mm
  • “LD” spool: 530 m of 0.35 mm

Designed to withstand any weather conditions and remain operational for hours—or even days—on a rod pod, this Big Pit is built to endure the toughest conditions.

Magsealed technology provides additional protection by preventing water, dirt, and abrasive particles from entering the gears.

Despite its larger size and enhanced technical features, the 26 Tournament Basia weighs a surprisingly light 535 g, thanks to its body and rotor made of ZAION, a lightweight yet extremely durable material.

It also features all the distinctive characteristics of the range, including:

  • QD Quick Drag, now with a maximum drag force of 15 kg
  • HIP Line Clip
  • Twist-buster III
  • The distinctive handle with a wooden knob, a clear nod to the origins of the design philosophy behind Daiwa’s Big Pit series.

Great attention was also paid to the size of the release lever on the anti-reverse mechanism.

Its surface area has been increased to ensure faster and more intuitive access, which is particularly useful when you need to release the thread quickly
